Hamzah

The Home MinisterDatuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin failed to clear the air on serious infringement on the rights of Parliamentary Members when they were blocked from entering the building on August 2nd.  An unsatisfactory response by Hamzah, “they were issued a compound for gathering illegally during a period of movement control due to the rising cases of Covid-19 in the country,” only invited more spats between opposition lawmakers.

What was evident however, there would not have been a gathering in first place if no orders were given to the Royal Malaysian Police to block access that was a breach of the Penal Code. As even the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun informed lawmakers that he ordered the doors of Parliament to be opened for MPs.

Azhar also assured Ipoh Timur MP Wong Kah Who he would cooperate with the police on the investigation involving denial of access to attend the Parliament’s Public Account Committee proceedings on the same day.

Lawmakers and the people deserve to know if there was an abuse of power by Perikatan Nasional government for the incident which tainted democracy in our country.
